Story✍️:

The story starts in 1975 with scientist Siranjeevi (Selvaraghavan) inventing a time travel phone with which you can call any phone number in the past and talk to people over there and change the course of the future. When he goes to a club to chill out after his breakthrough invention, he is caught in a crossfire between Don Antony (Vishal), and Ekambaram (Sunil), in between Ekambaram kills Antony.

Antony’s best friend and co-gangster Jackie Pandian (SJ Suryah) then takes over the business and grows into the largest gangster in Chennai. Cut to 1995, Jackie Pandian is still looking to kill the absconded Ekambaram for killing his friend. He loves Antony’s son Mark Antony (Vishal) more than his own son Madhan (SJ Suryah). And Mark Antony reciprocates the same affection towards Jackie as well. What happens when the time machine phone gets into their hands forms the rest of the story.

The first thing I would like to make clear is that this movie is not for people who look for logic in each and every scene. There are hundreds of logical loopholes throughout the movie and it is better to enjoy if you leave your brains outside the theatre while watching the movie.

The movie reaches a point in the interval block when we think, whatever is supposed to happen at the end of the movie has already happened, what’s left for the second half? Usually, we’ve seen many movies flat out after this point with a meh second half. But Mark Antony really takes off after the interval and it is an illogical laughter riot.

SJ Suryah single-handedly shoulders the movie, with excellent expressions, dialogue delivery, and body language both as the father and son. Compared to him, Vishal felt a bit overacting and his performance as an innocent felt a bit irritating. But we can clearly see that both of them have enjoyed playing their roles. Sunil has definitely sealed his place as a supporting actor with his recent roles in Maaveran, Jailer and now Mark Antony. Ritu Varma has very limited screen time and does not make much of an impression. Special mention to YG Mahendran for playing such a role for his age and experience. Definitely shows his passion for his art.

Technical Aspects ⚙️:

Director Adhik Ravichandran did a decent job with Mark Antony. The intention was to provide a whacky ride to the audience, and he managed to insert fun moments by playing around with the concept.

The songs are not good, but the background music is fine. The production design is impressive and neatly handled. The cinematography by Abhinandan Ramanujam goes in hand with the production design team.
