Tamizh Padam 3: Alien Athiyayam Shooting Begins; Shiva Faces UFO in New Poster
Tamizh Padam 3: Alien Athiyayam has officially begun filming, bringing actor Shiva and director C.S. Amudhan back together for the third installment of Tamil cinema’s spoof-comedy series.
A new announcement poster unveiled on 5 November 2026 places a lone figure on a beach beneath an enormous flying saucer. YNOT Studios is producing the film, with S. Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra named as producers. For now, the team has not announced a theatrical release date.
🎥 Tamizh Padam 3: Alien Athiyayam begins filming
The poster carries the line ‘Filming Starts Today’ and introduces Shiva as the ‘Intergalactic Superstar’, extending the deliberately exaggerated ‘Agila Ulaga Superstar’ image associated with the earlier films. Against a stormy sky, a vast spaceship hovers above the sea while a suited figure stands facing it. The design plays the science-fiction spectacle straight, at least visually, which makes the title’s Alien Athiyayam (Alien Chapter) particularly fitting for this franchise.

The imagery is a promotional joke, not confirmation of the screenplay. No official plot synopsis, full supporting cast, or composer has been revealed through this announcement.
The new filming announcement also moves the project beyond earlier updates. In September, Shiva had spoken about preparations for the third film, while October coverage pointed to an approaching shoot. The latest poster explicitly marks the commencement of filming rather than merely another proposed start date.
🎬 How the first Tamizh Padam became a successful spoof
Released in January 2010, Tamizh Padam turned the familiar rules of Tamil commercial cinema into its biggest source of comedy. Hero introductions, improbable action, sentimental flashbacks, romantic clichés and elaborate song sequences were all fair game. Instead of parodying just one film, C.S. Amudhan built an entire feature around the industry’s most recognizable storytelling shortcuts.
Shiva led the cast alongside Disha Pandey, with Paravai Muniyamma, M.S. Bhaskar, Manobala, Vennira Aadai Moorthy and Delhi Ganesh contributing to the comedy. The film had music by N. Kannan, cinematography by Nirav Shah, and editing by T.S. Suresh. S. Sashikanth and Dayanidhi Alagiri were associated with its production.
Its unusual concept drew attention, and the film became a commercial success. Reviews weren’t uniformly glowing, but its willingness to poke fun at hero worship and well-worn cinematic formulas gave it a distinct identity. The success also established Shiva’s self-mocking superstar persona as the franchise’s running gag.
🎞️ Tamizh Padam 2: Bigger targets, strong opening and mixed reviews
Eight years later, Tamizh Padam 2 arrived in July 2018 with Shiva returning under Amudhan’s direction. Iswarya Menon and Sathish joined the prominent cast, alongside Manobala, Santhana Bharathi and Nizhalgal Ravi, while Disha Pandey made a cameo appearance. Kannan returned for the music, Gopi Amarnath handled cinematography, and T.S. Suresh edited the sequel. YNOT Studios backed the production.
This time the satire widened from film clichés to include recent blockbusters, police dramas, social-media culture and political imagery. Its promotional posters were jokes in their own right, regularly borrowing the language and poses of familiar film campaigns. The sequel enjoyed a strong theatrical opening for a comedy without a conventional mass-star lead, although critical responses were more divided. The density of references earned appreciation, while some reviews found the joke-driven screenplay repetitive.
💬 Did the earlier films face controversies?
The franchise’s habit of spoofing recognizable stars and political moments did invite objections. After the second film’s release, some viewers questioned whether its political jokes were softer on the DMK than on other targets. Amudhan rejected the suggestion that his satire was dictated by a political allegiance. He also explained that a planned political spoof was cut because he felt the first half was getting too long.
The sequel’s promotional poster also jokingly described the piracy site Tamilrockers as an ‘official piracy partner’. That was a satirical dig at film piracy, not an actual production arrangement. These debates are part of the series’ provocative humor, but they don’t create any new controversy around the third film.
📅 What happens next for Tamizh Padam 3?
With shooting now announced, the next useful updates will be the remaining cast and crew, more details about the film’s comic premise, and an official release plan. The UFO artwork suggests that the filmmakers are again playing with the visual language of grand commercial cinema, but it would be premature to name particular films, stars or science-fiction stories as confirmed targets.
The gap since 2018 gives Amudhan and Shiva a fresh stretch of Tamil cinema to draw upon. Whether Alien Athiyayam finds an equally entertaining way to connect its references will become clearer once the makers reveal footage and further details.
